Poema de madre e hija

Respira, respira.
Mi respiración da vueltas en espiral
como una doble hélice
extendiéndose por el universo--
Madre, madre,
la que me dio forma
está por dentro.

Por dentro y por fuera:
una curva serpentina sin fin
tan silenciosa
como reptiles tomando el sol
un flujo rítmico
un surgir y caerse.

Respira, Respira--
latido del corazón
el curso de una vida
esta mi forma femenina,
entrelazada codo a codo
con el curso de muchas vidas,
y lo que existe sin forma
el misterio justo afuera
del paso de la imaginación
dentro de esta mente

mi mente, mi forma, mi ser
creados por la madre que creó
mi madre la que es
el universo
como lo soy yo.

You have become black ocean

for Marianne

you have become black ocean
your eyelids shimmer under the moon
where light & water meet
upon the skin of the manifest

I cross a footbridge backwards
across the night
from sunset to sunrise
to catch a glimpse of you

your dark hair streams out past time
to an imageless soundless peace
from which the wind and blue are born
lighting shores and green are born
mountains rivers and gold are born
waves volcanoes and purple majesty are born

overhead
overhead the stars twinkle twinkle
twinkle like round mirrors
rinsed clean
by the supple silence--

My mother's eyes... / Los ojos de mi madre...

My mother's eyes seeing
through the eyes of the moon,
her hair, fine tendrils of light.

Los ojos de mi madre ven
por los ojos de la luna
su cabello, hebras finas de luz.

Conjured in Memory

Conjured in memory
you visit
waving excitedly,
from the doorway, pausing,
weight forward to the edge
of your toes, you approach
to join us.

Mother and Daughter Poem

Breathe, breathe.
My breath spirals
like a double helix
reaching into the universe--
My mother. My mother,
the one who gave me form is
within. In and out
endless serpentine curve
as silent
as reptiles taking the sun
rhythmic flux
rise and fall
breathe
heart beat
a single lifetime
this, my womanly form,
interlocked at the elbow
with many lifetimes
and the formless
mystery just outside
the gait of imagination
within this mind,
my mind, my form, my being
created by the mother who created
my mother who is
the universe
as am I.
