Quedarse

quedarse,

quedarse de verdad—

a pesar de la brulliente tormenta,

permanecer,

entregarse,

y despertar

al intersticio fecundo

entre cada respiro,

cada partícula danzando,

cada gota de lluvia,

viva

entre cada idea

la lluvia del pensamiento

se disipa en hálito del misterio

donde la rosa y el cielo,

la rama y las nubes,

se funden en el éter

que todo lo sostiene

velos de lluvia vertiginosos y traslúcidos

caen hacia la tierra,

al húmedo y estrepitoso encuentro

con el horizontinoso y árido suelo,

desatando el canto de la creación

To Stay

To stay,

to truly stay—

despite the broiling storm,

to linger,

to surrender,

and awaken

to the pregnant gap

between each breath

each particle dancing

each raindrop

alive

between each idea

the rain of thought

evaporates into mystery

where the rose and the sky,

the tree branch and the clouds

merge into the ether

that holds everything

vertiginous, translucent veils of rain

fall earthward,

into a crashing wet encounter

with the horiginous, parched soil

releasing the song of creation

Harmonics of light

My eyes beheld—

for the first and only time—

this one, continuous moment,

living in the ever-arriving

arc of light

of the One.

The divine presence of creation

looked through my eyes,

and I was transfigured

into the same undulating light

as the whole universe.

Shimmering, I opened

from within

to the most present truth

of who I am.

I called out in response,

singing in the vibration

of the creator.

The tree outside my window

shimmered green,

its dappled light and shadow

echoing my song.

The air shimmered

within me and all around me.

I was a shimmer

within the shimmer of creation.

I sang the harmonics

of now, and now, and now...

and eternity in the now.

The blue sky witnessed

the vibrant dance

of the molecules of seeing

and the resounding song of being.

This persisted outside of time—

in now’s eternity—

each moment met fully,

fulfilling all

seeing,

singing,

being.

Each moment:

the first and only—

heart broken open.

Then, my eyes closed.

And my hands

spread rainbows

across the distances,

through the darkness—

rainbows of love,

reconciliation,

healing,

love.

A la orilla del agua

—para Stephanie, Grace y todas las hermanas que se encuentran a la orilla del agua

Un inmenso cuerpo de agua

se estira,

tocando nuestras riberas lejanas,

donde contemplamos el horizonte.

Aquí en el altiplano árido

desde las cimas más altas,

siento los huesos del agua,

recuerdos sonámbulos del océano,

bajo la roca ancestral.

Capas del tiempo,

ocres, grises y rojas,

se asoman

en las laderas diagonales.

Lecho marino alzándose,

piedras volcánicas esparcidas,

enormes rocas posadas sobre la tierra,

sus solemnes rostros

esconden milenios,

mientras bajo sus párpados

sueñan el cuerpo del mar.

Aun aquí,

en el corazón del continente,

las aguas saladas del mundo

me alcanzan.

En esta orilla

respiro el aire

de estas riberas lejanas,

playas distantes

donde mis hermanas aguardan

las anchas aguas abiertas,

y sueñan

con estas montañas

sumergidas en el cielo.

At the Water’s Edge

—for Stephanie & Grace and all sisters standing at the water’s edge

A great body of water

stretches out,

touching our distant shores

where we contemplate the horizon.

Here in the high desert,

from the highest peaks

I feel the water’s bones—

recollections of the ocean,

under ancient rock,

layers of time,

ochre, grey and red,

peeking through the tilting slope.

Sea floor rising—

volcanic stones scattered,

boulders perched on the land,

their giant solemn faces

conceal eons,

while under their closed eyelids

they dream the ocean’s body.

Even here,

in the heart of the continent,

the salt waters of the world

reach me.

On this shore,

I breathe the air

of distant coastlines,

where my sisters gaze

across the open water,

dreaming

of these mountains

submerged in the sky.
