Questions for a walled world

Of what use
is a wall
who does it serve?

Who builds a wall?

Could it be someone who wants to protect themselves
from wolves
savages
poverty
illness
death
the human condition?

From something bad outside?

Could it be?

Or is it something already inside
lodged in the intimate flesh
of the imagination?

Will the walls be of use
the barbed wire and bars
cement and electrification
will they be of use?

will the endless vigil of the eye
that never closes
never sleeps never dreams
be of use?

Will the walls be useful as barriers
establishing the limits of what is undesirable
yet another effort of the flat world
saving those who will fit above
from those below?

Or are the walls really mirrors
revealing the real poverty
of the carefully constructed sofocating enclosure?

To breath it is necessary to be permeable.
